Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working at NBC News in Washington D.C. and is a television anchor. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. In the year 1967, Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She became a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located in Washington DC. In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent for NBC News a year later. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was made chief of the congressional correspondent within the year 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and was named chief foreign affairs reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell played both host and panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. She joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was the former chairman for Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. She covered a myriad of notable stories, including weapons control, the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra saga. She traveled extensively together with the president Reagan for summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
